BIO:
K9 Rocko began his career in 2014 after graduating from the 170th Patrol Class, proudly serving with the Department of Correction. Throughout his time on duty, Rocko responded to numerous disturbances across Connecticut’s correctional facilities — always ready to protect and restore order.
One of Rocko’s most notable moments came in 2016, when he helped peacefully resolve a dangerous situation involving an armed inmate. His presence and training led to the inmate’s compliance, allowing staff to secure the scene without further escalation. A year later, Rocko assisted Enfield Police Department during a traffic stop, alerting on a vehicle where 15 bags of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia were discovered.
That same year, Rocko and his handler competed in the prestigious K9 Olympics, earning Top Team for Tactical Obedience — a reflection of their skill and bond.
Sadly, Rocko’s career was cut short in 2018 when his handler was injured while responding to a facility disturbance. The injury required multiple surgeries and an extended absence, forcing Rocko into early retirement long before he was ready to leave the work he loved.
Today, Rocko is 11½ years old and still adjusting to life as a retired family dog. In 2020, he was diagnosed with pannus, a degenerative eye condition that left him blind. While he sometimes bumps into things and needs time to reorient, Rocko has shown remarkable resilience — adapting to his new world with the same quiet strength he brought to his service.
As Foundation Dog #004 under Harlows Heroes, Rocko reminds us that even heroes need help adjusting after duty — and that every chapter, even in retirement, deserves dignity and care.
