Harlows Heroes is the only nonprofit in the country providing full spectrum care for retired K9s. Our model is designed to fill the gaps left after service by collaborating with trusted community partners and other organizations to ensure each dog receives comprehensive support so they not only not live their retirement, but get to truly enjoy it.

Harlows Heroes Foundation Dog Eligibility Requirements

To qualify as a Harlows Heroes Foundation Dog, the following criteria must be met:

• Must be a fully retired K9
• Must have served as a Police or Military working K9
• Must have been certified in one or more of the following disciplines:
• Patrol
• Narcotics detection
• Explosives detection
• Search and rescue
• Cadaver detection
• Electronic Storage device detection
• Tracking or man trailing
• Firearms detection
• Currency detection
• Accelerant detection
• Conservation detection

PLEASE NOTE: Our Foundation Dog Program is not currently available to retired certified comfort dogs or retired contract working K9s.

Annual Foundation Dog Stipend

The current Harlows Heroes Foundation Dog stipend is $1,000 per K9 per year, based on a January through January fiscal year. Stipend amounts and eligibility are subject to review and may be adjusted as the program grows.

Foundation Dog stipends are intended to help offset expenses related to the K9’s care and well-being. Eligible areas of support may include, but are not limited to:

– Routine and emergency veterinary care
– Rehabilitation and mobility support
– Nutritional support and supplements
– Enrichment items and quality-of-life activities
– Safety and protective equipment
– Palliative and end-of-life care

Stipend use is guided by Harlows Heroes program guidelines to ensure consistency, fairness, and responsible stewardship across all Foundation Dogs.
